Reverend Cornelius J. E. Lloyd
Rev. Cornelius J. E. Lloyd is a native of Savannah, GA. Educated in the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System, Cornelius graduated from Hershel V. Jenkins High School in 2001. In 2005, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology with an emphasis in business and African American Studies from Georgia State University. In that same year, Cornelius heard the voice of the Lord calling him into ministry.
For 8 years, “Mr. Cornelius,” as he was known to his young people, faithfully served a nonprofit agency in Atlanta, Ga. working with children of incarcerated parents. The agency, Foreverfamily, Inc. (formerly known as AIM) provided him with the opportunity to learn about the nonprofit sector, grow professionally and spiritually, and mentor young people.
In 2007, Reverend Lloyd gained admission to Columbia Theological Seminary (CTS) where he graduated with a Master of Divinity - May 2010. While attending seminary Lloyd was inducted into the 2009 class of Outstanding Atlanta. Upon graduation, he received his license to the ministry of the Gospel in June of 2010. From 2010 to 2016, he served as the Minister to Youth, Young Adults, and College Students at Ray of Hope Christian Church – Decatur, GA under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Cynthia Hale, Senior Pastor. On March 15, 2015, Lloyd was ordained into Christian ministry by the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) Region of Georgia.
After serving the Metropolitan Atlanta community for 15 years, Reverend Lloyd and his
wife Ashley relocated to their hometown - Savannah, GA - with their two children, Kyla
and Victor. He served as the Associate Pastor for Youth & Young Adults at Little Bryan
Missionary Baptist Church where Rev. Marvin L. Lloyd is the Senior Pastor.
Since his return to Savannah, Lloyd has served the community in various capacities with the State of Georgia Department of Community Supervision as a Community Supervision Officer, Community Coordinator for the Savannah-Chatham Eastern District, connecting citizens with resources as a part of the Georgia Prisoner Reentry Initiative. In 2019, Cornelius joined the staff of Xcel Strategies – A Mentoring Network where he currently serves as the Mentoring Director - Chatham County. Lloyd has also served as the Asset Building Coordinator with Step Up Savannah – established to address poverty reduction.
Under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Thomas E. Williams, Lloyd was hired to serve as the Assistant Pastor of First African Baptist Church of East Savannah – Savannah, GA, in August 2022, the first in the church’s history. On January 15, 2023 the congregation voted to have Rev. Lloyd to become Pastor-Elect. On April 30, 2023 Rev. Cornelius J.E. Lloyd was installed as the 15 th Pastor of First African Baptist Church of East Savannah.
Reverend Cornelius J. E. Lloyd believes that God can do exceedingly abundantly above everything we can ask or think, and all things work together for good, to them that love God and are called according to God’s purpose.
